EA has announced a collaboration between its subsidiary, Motive Games, and Marvel Entertainment to develop an all-new Iron Man video game.
According to the announcement, the game will be a single-player, third-person action adventure with a new and unique narrative based on Tony Stark’s rich history. The game’s development, which is still in the pre-production stage, will be undertaken by a team from the Montreal-based Motive Studio.
Olivier Proulx, who has worked on other Marvel titles like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, is leading the team. The team also includes industry veterans like Ian Frazier, Creative Director for the Star Wars: Squadrons game; Maëlenn Lumineau, production director for Immortals: Fenyx Rising and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey; and JF Poirier, who served as producer for the Star Wars: Squadrons and Star Wars: Battlefront II games.
According to Bill Rosemann, Vice President and Creative Director at Marvel Games,
“[Motive Studio’s] experience delivering both established entertainment worlds and thrilling gameplay — combined with their authentic passion for the armored icon — will fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game.”
The first Iron Man game was released in 2008 alongside the original film. It was criticized for having a poor storyline, terrible cutscenes, and that it was full of repetitive/meaningless tasks. However, Motive Studio’s experience developing outstanding game titles should assure Marvel fans that the new Iron Man game should finally be a good one.
Marvel’s Upcoming Game Lineup
Disney recently announced other upcoming games at the 2022 D23 Expo. The games are based on various Marvel characters, such as Captain America, Black Panther, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Tron, Mickey Mouse, and more.
