Luffy is a trendy teenager in new One Piece collectible

Singapore-based collectible maker Mighty Jaxx has added a new figure to its collection of toys based on the popular manga series One Piece.

Called CosmiQ x One Piece: Luffy, the collectible is a homage to the character, keeping true to his beloved traits and history while giving him a fresh new look. Traveling through a portal from The New World into modern-day Japan, Luffy trades his pirate clothes for trendy streetwear featuring his signature red, white, and yellow colors.

Ready to conquer the streets of Harajuku, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates is wearing a snapback, a fresh pair of kicks, lightweight jersey shorts, and an oversized hoodie featuring his iconic scar in graphic form.

A promo photo for the figure suggests that the rest of the Straw Hat gang will also be getting their own versions of CosmiQ x One Piece collectibles. In the picture below, we can see the backs of what appear to be CosmiQ x One Piece figures of Nami, Zanji, Zoro, and Uusop.

The limited-edition figure is set to debut in limited availability at New York Comic Con this weekend, followed by a wide release on the Mighty Jaxx website on October 8th at 9 a.m. ET. The collectible costs $169.

Aside from the U.S., sales of the figure are limited to Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and China.

Luffy’s alternate versions

The modern-day look of CosmiQ x One Piece: Luffy is partly inspired by the many alternate versions of the character in the manga. As fans know, One Piece mangaka Eiichiro Oda has been drawing alternate timeline 40- and 60-year-old versions of Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat gang.

In Chapter 897, Oda shared four sketches of the main character, which you can see below. The top sketches are a future where everything goes smoothly, while the sketches at the bottom show a version of Luffy where something causes him to lose motivation.

There’s also a short anime-only special that transports the beloved pirate and his crew into the world of 19th-century Japan (The Grand Jipangu). Titled Boss Luffy Historical Special, the short, fun standalone series stars Luffy as an okapikki — a secret policeman during that time.
